Today I got the grade for my second project in photography back. I worked hard on this project and I stressed for weeks about it only to find out that I got a D. I was obviously kind of discouraged at first but I know that I did my best on this project and the grading part is out of my control so I'm cool with it. But. If I didn't think he would fail me out of spite (not that it matters because it looks like I'm going to fail anyway) and it I wasn't so afraid of conflict and confrontation I would like to say a few things to him. I think this is what I would like to say:
Dear he who must not be named,
I have the same feelings about your teaching as you do about my (first ever attempt at film) photography. I wish someone would tell you that teaching at a University level isn't just about proving you are the all knowing authority on your subject. A teacher is successful when they foster a desire to learn and improve in their students. I get that feeling more from my boring food science class than from your class and I happen to love photography. Instead of inspiring and encouraging your students you pressure, embarrass, and discourage your students. I have no problem handling criticism, especially from my teachers and fellow students but you seem to have forgotten that you are teaching photo one... which implies that the people in the class have little to no experience with the subject, so maybe you should grade with that in mind.
Sincerely,
One of your "D" students

all's well that ends well.
I spent most of the day today stressed out because I wasn't sure if I would have enough time to finish my photography assignment by tomorrow. I actually even left my Japanese calligraphy class early because I was so worried (and also because that class is kind of a joke... but that probably goes without saying huh?). But happily, it turns out that when you don't have 20 other people in the dark room you can get triple the amount of work done in half the time. Whether or not it's quality work is definitely debatable... and come to think of it... it will be debated tomorrow during my class critique. I'll let you know the verdict.
So anyways, it's now 9:30 and instead of going to the gym like a good little girl who is training for a half marathon I'm going to go to bed so that I don't sleep through my history class again.

Movin' on up
I moved back up to Logan this Friday and was pleasantly surprised to find that my apartment isn't much of is a step up from the trailer I was hoping for. It's in the basement of a dentists office and it smells and looks like it was built in the late 60's/early 70's (vintage is all the rage these days right?). We've also got an ant problem farm in the kitchen. So obviously I'm pretty happy about that. Those aren't the only good things about my new crib though, it's really close to campus and my roommates seem really nice.... but the best part? I have two beds and two closets! So you guys can come visit whenever you want! and if you feel the need to bring your whole wardrobe go right ahead cause I got space for it.
You're packing your bags right now aren't you?
Anyway, classes start tomorrow and I get to go to American history from 1900-1945 and Photography. I'm really excited for photography, this will be the fourth time in my life where I've signed up for a photography class so I'm just hoping I won't have to drop it this time too. Keep your fingers crossed!

just a bit of good news.
This is part of what I found in my e-mail box tonight!
Granted, I only took one class over the summer but I don't usually get messages like this so I feel pretty good about it.

Idaho. The gem state.
I went to Idaho this past weekend with some of my old friends from high school/BYUI. The trip was SO much fun and I loved every minute of it. I'm a pretty sentimental person so obviously I got all nostalgic walking around campus, especially when we were walking through the library for some reason. It was also kind of sad to go back to Idaho and think of all the good times we had and then realize how things have changed and how everyone has moved or is going to move away. It was sad but the way I see it, these girls are family to me and it's like they say... families are forever...
can I put it any cheesier?
I also forgot how incredibly beautiful it is up there. I love the big blue sky, the never ending farmland, and the little towns. Call me crazy but I think I could happily spend the rest of my life in St. Anthony or Sugar City.

This semester is going to be an adventure... to say the least.
That is why I was so grateful for the "pep talk" that Elder Christofferson gave at the fireside on Sunday (at least that's what I got from the talk). So I decided that I'm going to make this the theme of this semester:
Just finish the day.
I can do anything for one day and I won't let myself stress about the next day, week, or month until it comes. I can handle anything life throws at me from the perspective that it's just for the day, but when I start thinking about being stressed out for three months with the end result possibly being failure and a waste of time and money I start to not be so happy. So basically, I'm just going to make each day a success and before I even know it, three months will go by SUCCESSFULLY!
This, I can do.
The end.

confession
I'm trying really hard right now to write an 8 page paper about Alexis De Tocqueville's view of art, literature, and history in America. I feel like an incredible fraud because I'm using words like "patois"(without necessarily knowing what they mean)as if to say to my professor, "you see that? I wrote patois in a complete sentence. I must be intelligent enough to pass this class, eh?"
If you know me at all you will also know that this is not true.
P.S.
I just googled the definition of "patois"...
ha ha ha!
I love coincidences like that.

Homework?
Have I told you lately that my homework these days is awesome?
This is one of my latest assignments:
"Take pictures of things in the world that inspire you and come up with a textile design based on the things you find inspiring. Then find a piece of furniture that you would put the textile on..."

Here is another assignment(it's not finished yet):
"Find a movie scene and recreate it using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator."

It's way better than doing math.
or science.
or writing a paper.
or....
well, you get the idea.

Today...
I finished my first Photoshop project! We had to choose a band and make a collage for an album cover.
This is mine:
Retarded or cool?
I'll let you decide....
(ha ha)
Can I just say how much I love my classes so far? They are awesome (except for political science). I think I might even do my homework because it's stuff like, "sketch a tree" or "make a collage".... it's wonderful... I feel like I'm in some kind of high-tech kindergarten or something,
and kindergarten (as we all know), is the best place for me. It was where I peaked in life.
So. That is all.
This is Kori, signing out.

Back to school
The past few days have been crazy. I'm still trying to let it all sink in. That's why I haven't blogged in a few days, I don't really know what to say about it all. So basically (with no depth of thought), this is what's been going on!
1) First day in Logan, Mallory and I went on a run and came back to find that I locked our key's in my apartment and none of my roommates were home. So we waited for about an hour and a half and then I decided to call Spencer. He came over with some friends and, to make a long story short, Spencer got in through my 2nd story window and let us in just as my roommates showed up. After that, me and Mallory went to IHOP. It was a good time :)
2) I'm really in love with the water here in Logan. You can drink in STRAIGHT from the tap and it isn't nasty! It's wonderfull.
3) I don't know. I'll just say that I can kind of relate to Adam Sandler in Billy Madison. (meaning that I feel like the oldest person in class).

have you seen my volleyball?
I guess there was a fire at Berret's Blossoms and it took out a lot of the power around town
so here I sit.... sad... at my computer.
I decided that I need more of the Doors in my itunes library... and my life.
I also seem to have unconsciously decided that doing laundry is unnecessary.
and I guess I decided that I need a place with solid walls to live when I go to Logan, instead of just living in a tent (which was the original plan and has been done). So I've applied for housing at ONE place. Hopefully they let me in or else I'll have to go with plan A.
So anyways...
I feel really happy about everything these days.
I'm nervous about going on my own to Logan but the excitement of starting something new, that I think I'll love, outweighs my nerves by a lot.... for now at least, I'm sure my nerves will kick it up a notch when the time gets closer :)
I guess that's life though, isn't it?
We go from one uncomfortable thing to another and 95% of the time we come out on top. I keep reminding myself this because I have a real talent of convincing myself that if I try something challenging I WILL fail.
It's not true.
but I've let the fear of possible failure and embarrassment stop me from doing a lot of things in my life, and I really regret it. But whatever...
In other news!
Here are some pictures from the Fourth of July for y'all!
I didn't take very many cause I really need a new lens, if anyone wants to donate to my fund feel free :)

This little girl waved like this throughout the WHOLE 10 hour long parade (ok, not 10 hours, but it was a long parade this year) ...
She started out with a lot of enthusiasm like this:

Oh Hi.
So it's officially official, I'm an Aggie! Wahoo! I start school this fall and I'm extra happy about it because I heard back from my old BYUI roomie, Mallory, and she is down with living together again :) It's going to be good times. Oh the tales I could tell from Rexburg, sometimes I myself wonder if they really happened.
Ummm, I don't know what else to write but I really wanted to share a little treasure with you...
Isn't she the cutest thing in the world?
Well, I have to try and tear myself away from "UFC Unleashed" now and go the gym.
Talk to ya later!

Fantasy Land
Hi.
It's me, Kori.
I guess I'm here to write about something, huh? I just don't know what exactly that is yet. It seems like everything I want to write about is too boring to bother with. How about I tell you about a little fantasy I have, it's called BYU Hawaii. More specifically, ME at BYU Hawaii. It sounds nice doesn't it? Right now my plan is to go to USU in the Fall but I would change my plan in a second if it weren't for two problems: money and a sad lack of majors to choose from at BYU Hawaii. So, having said that, I'm going to do a little comparison of BYU Hawaii and Utah State University. (and yes, I do realize that
I'll probably end up really depressed after this. oh well.)
USU

BYUH
Logan

(HA HA! Ok, I'm completely kidding about that last picture. Sorry boys of Logan, Utah! That was wrong of me)
So based on my comparisons, it looks like the grass is greener in Hawaii.
But we should make sure...
Grass in Logan
Grass in Hawaii
