Autochrome

.... (sigh) ....
how beautiful are these pictures?
I checked out this book at the library today called "The Dawn of Color Photography" and I've been looking at it for hours now. The photography just makes my heart ache, I can't really explain why, it's probably just the annoying hopeless romantic living in the pit of my stomach wanting attention. I try to ignore it most of the time but there are a few things that make it impossible to control, old photography is one thing, Jane Austen books are another, foreign accents, and of course Lord Alfred Tennyson... no one writes like him anymore! It's tragic. It reminds me of a quote that I read in the photography book. One of the photographers was writing about an Irish peat digger that she took a picture of. She wrote, "He works alone, under the sky, his feet in water, with just the birds and the clouds for company. It's easy to understand how these people have such vivid and passionate imaginations, and were able to construct the most beautiful legends in the whole of Europe." I guess that's the reason that no one writes like that anymore. We have TV and Ipods and no time for silence and thought. At least not as much time as we used to.
Oh well...
Sorry, I'll stop now and watch some TV :)
