just thinking

Pictures like this on pinterest bug me.

I don't care how much weight you lose you aren't going to look like Kate Moss so maybe we should stop holding the exception to the average women up as the goal.

Pictures like this from pinterest also bug me.

I'm supposed to find this inspiring? I guess I just don't want a man body but that's just me.  And also, who wears clothes like that and does their hair like that to the gym? I would feel kind of uncomfortable if I saw a girl like that at the gym... at least put a t-shirt on and hide your egotism a little bit.

Thinking about it though; what does this says about our society when some of our biggest challenges are trying not to eat and trying to get our bodies to look better than everyone else?  It's weird to me to think that throughout history, and even today, food shortage has been one of the biggest challenges to human survival and here I am, looking at "inspirational" weight-loss pictures that people (who worry about how toned their abs are) have posted onto pinterest.  I'm not trying to preach because I'm as guilty as the next person of this, but think about it... our society has progressed far enough that we have actually have time to seriously worry about things like building muscle (that will only be used to lift dumbbells), getting fake tans (nails, eyelashes, hair color... fake anything really), and taking pictures of ourselves to post on the internet... it's pretty crazy really.

Sorry, I don't know how I got on this topic, I originally sat down to write about Christmas.

  1. Agreed. I hate those on pinterest too. The most unhealthy perspective of self-image. So...you're not the only one that feels that way. :)
